The Victorian Gentleman IS Robert Stephenson

Assisted by his loving wife Frances, the legend of the man who brought you Stephenson’s Rocket unfolds as living history before your very eyes. From the initial construction of the Rocket through to the Rainhill Trials and the rising prominence of the Liverpool to Manchester railway, a fascinating slice of social and industrial history is brought back to life.

The Victorian Gentleman character was first introduced at The Manchester Museum as a way of adding a more engaging historical context to many of the exhibits and artefacts on display.

Presenting tours for both adults and children, the Victorian Gentleman character brings to life anecdotes, tales and experiences just as if you were back in the midst of the industrial revolution that transformed the British Empire. Even Victoria herself would have been amused at some of the tales!
For their first touring presentation, the Victorian Gentleman and his good lady wife will become Robert & Frances Stephenson and re-tell the story of The Rocket and the exciting times in which they lived.

There is even a hands on railway workshop for children who wish to build a replica of The Rocket - ably assisted by Mr & Mrs Stephenson of course.
